ABOUT US

'Mulga Jim' - Alfred Charles Blaxland  (A.C.) was born in 1878 in the upper Hunter town of Merriwa NSW.  A.C. was the great grandson of pastoralist and explorer Gregory Blaxland.  'Mulga Jim' was the pseudonym under which A.C. wrote the accounts of his droving experiences in Western Queensland and New South Wales in the late 1890's & early 1900's. His father was forced to sell the family farm - 'Cullingral' after the bank smash of 1893.  A.C. subsequently left school at 15 years of age and started life as a drover, droving large mobs of sheep great distances. A.C. went on to be a pastoralist as well as founding 'Vita-Lick' which introduced salt licks and self feeding stock trough's back in the 1920's and 1930's.  His company Vita-Lick was the first sponsor of aviatrix Nancy Bird's commercial flights into far western New South Wales.  A.C. is my grandfather.
